Taikan Everything: AW16 Brand Introduction

From the moment we were introduced to Taikan Everything from our friend Nick Girlando, we knew we wanted to support the brand. The attention to detail to every bag and level craftsmanship that goes into making the brand was and still is quite impressive. To top things off, this Autumn/Winter is their debut collection and they're offering a limited lifetime warranty on all of their bags! Just like that, straight out of the gate! We enjoy what these guys represent and we hope you all will too. We got a chance to speak with ones of the creatives behind the brand, Paul Ismirnioglou, which you can read below - 

Introduce yourself to us all and what you’re doing!

First off, thank you for giving me the opportunity share a little about myself and Taikan Everything. My name is Paul Ismirnioglou and I’m one of the creatives behind the brand. I’m currently handling all sales while assisting in some of the day-to-day operations of the brand. That said, we do have an amazing team of creatives working on this project, and we’re excited to show the world what we are all about.

What’s the story behind the name Taikan Everything?

Well, our name Taikan is actually pronounced “Take-en” which means “to carry or bring with one”. The second part “Everything” is really open to one’s own interpretation. We knew that starting up a brand would open us up on a new and amazing journey, so our current “Everything” includes our family, friends, and advocates. 

We will continue to define our “Everything” in the coming months and anticipate fans of Taikan will take part in this journey. 

What lead to Taikan Backpacks, was it a side project that developed and grew into something bigger? 

Taikan Everything was never a side project. We had a strong starting point as many of us have been connected to the fashion industry for some time. We saw a direct need for a forward yet fashionably clean collection of accessories, yet still offered at an attainable price point. 

What separates Taikan Backpacks from other backpack/travel goods companies?

We look at things differently. Function is very important but we feel that our bags do this in cleaner manner than what is presently offered in the market. We chose to focus our attention on the simple details that are often found on more upscale brands. We use real leather on our handles/tassels/shoulder straps and use durable ballistic nylons in most of the collection, which is a great fabric for long term wear. Our duffels and totes feature metal feet which provide additional protection to the bottom of our bags. We focus on really small details that higher end brands offer but keeping our price points accessible.  Ultimately, Taikan Everything follows a simple design theory that less is more, and esthetic will always mirror what is happening in higher end luxury goods.

Where do you see the brand five years from now? 

At the end of the day our potential is unlimited. Living in the moment is the only way to achieve sustainable success aka ask me this question again in five years. 

What are some of the goals for the brand? 

Being a globally successful & accessible brand is one of our main goals. Just seeing our bags being used in all parts of the world will be such a cool thing. Making great quality bags that our crew wants to wear, yet keeping it attainable for most everyone. Again, we believe that our potential is unlimited so it’s less about goals and more about day-to-day accomplishments, which lead to future achievements.

What are the biggest risks you’ve Taikan to build your business? 

I’ve really learned so much on this journey so the biggest risk is not following through to the end. 

What advice would you give to others wanting to start their own company?

The team that surrounds you is the most important piece to the puzzle. Luckily, I have an amazing team behind me as it takes a village to raise a brand…
